Google Still Dominates Search but Yahoo Sites Get More Traffic to Its Websites
There is some confusion out there about who has the most powerful search engine after news reports said Yahoo had overtaken Google. Yahoo overtook Google in unique visits to their website properties, including tablet email programs and traffic to other sites such as Yahoo Finance, which is one of the best financial pages on the internet. Yahoo scored 196.6 million unique visitors versus 192.3 million for Google web properties, according to CNN Money. Of course, these visits help Yahoo’s ad revenues. Google still dominates search. Comscore gives Google 67% of the core search market as of July 13th. Microsoft sites (Bing) captured 17.9% and Yahoo got 1.3%, a drop of 0.1%. Ask had 2.7% and AOL 1.2%.
Google had 13 billion core searches, Bing had 3.5 billion and Yahoo 2.2 billion.
Study on Conversion Rates Between Paid Search and Organic
According to a recent study of 200 retail websites by MarketLive (http://www.marketlive.com/), the conversion rate for paid search was 2.6% versus 1.9% for organic search. The study period covered January 1 through June 30, 2013. Paid search accounted for one-third (33%) of search engine visits during the period, versus 26% in 2012. Organic search actually generated more new visits to the websites than paid search with organic generating 66% versus 59% for paid search. 33% of traffic during the study period was from mobile devices and tablets with tablet traffic growing faster than smartphones. The study results were reported by Jennifer Slegg in a recent Search Engine Watch article.
New Rock Slide Closes U.S. 64 and Access to Ocoee River
It has been one of those challenging years for most outfitters due to disruptions in weather patterns. High water closed rivers in the East for at least a few days, including the 4th of July weekend. While the West was dry, the East saw relentless rainfall and showers, almost every weekend until recently. Now Ocoee River outfitters are contending with a new rock slide, which threatens their Labor Day weekend business. Fortunately, a containment fence kept most of the rock off the highway, but the fence is nearly overflowing and the road will be closed until the debris can be removed and the potential for additional slides assessed, according to the Chattanooga Times Free Press. Last weekend, two fatalities occurred on the middle stretch of the river which has historically seen very few fatalities. Outfitters saw hundreds of cancellations after those events.
Group Health Insurance at Your Company? You Must Report Whether Your Plan Prescription Drug Coverage is “Creditable” or “Non creditable” by October 14th.
The Medicare Modernization Act (MMA) requires entities with group health insurance plans (whose policies include prescription drug coverage) to notify Medicare eligible policyholders whether their prescription drug coverage is creditable coverage, which means that the coverage is expected to pay on average as much as the standard Medicare prescription drug coverage. You must send a report to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and to your Medicare Part D eligible employees and eligible spouses prior to the deadline on October 14th, 2013. NOTE: Every GROUP administrator must notify CMS of your plan being creditable or non-creditable, regardless of whether or not you have Medicare-eligible employees/spouses.
