Senate Begins Debate on a Continuing Resolution to Fund the Government.
Senator Cruz' filibuster has ended and Senate is taking up debate on the continuing resolution (CR), which funds the federal government at last year's levels when the next fiscal year starts on October 1st. The issue now will be how long the CR will fund government operations, not whether there will be one -- at least in the Senate. Whatever the Senate adopts, the House will have to approve, so we could go down to the wire. Some Senate Democrats want funding for no more than a couple months so that the Congress will be forced to pass a budget that restores some of the sequestration cuts. Next month the country reaches its borrowing limit, known as the debt ceiling, which Congress will have to act on to raise. So, the fun has just begun.
