New Proposed Forest Service Permitting Policy to Be Published in the Federal Register

We expect the new Forest Service permitting policy to be published in the Federal Register within the next few days, possibly on Friday. The policy will deal with permit administration, assignment of use, and insurance regulations.

AO will distribute the proposed policy once it is published with an analysis and get comments from various segments of the industry. Within about two weeks of the proposed rules publication in the Federal Register, we will plan a conference call for members to explain the policy and suggest a course of action to ensure the maximum numbers of comments are submitted consistent with the overall interest of the membership and outfitted public. Be sure to check Hot Issues on the AO website www.americaoutdoors.org.

Carolyn Holbrook, Director of Special Uses in the Washington office of the Forest Service, will be presenting the policy and listening to our input at the America Outdoors Confluence conference in Reno on Wednesday, December 5th.

Database Marketing Reports Are Still Available for 2007

AO members still have a low cost opportunity to receive database marketing reports through our agreement with Ruf Strategic Solutions. The reports will divide your customers into Ruf's Smart Clusters and help you determine the top 20% of your customers or prospects. One great idea is to get your customers analyzed separately from your prospects. Then compare the two and match your prospects to the top 20% of your customers to determine where to allocate marketing dollars. Each report costs $2,600 and there is a $250 charge for each file uploaded. 18 outfitters participated in the study last year. For more information contact dbrown@americaoudoors.org.
