Bill to Protect Commercial Rafting on Colorado Rivers Squeaks through Committee in State Senate
The bill to protect the rights of passage on Colorado waterways for outfitters passed the Senate Judiciary Committee on a 4 to 3 vote. After 7 hours of testimony, one Senator was persuaded to vote for the bill at the last minute sending it to the Senate floor for a vote. The bill was amended to
• Remove the right to portage around obstacles;
• Expand its scope to any river that has been floated by a commercial company at any time since 2000;
• Include private boaters with a right to float.
